Lakeside Contemporary

With lake views and plenty of square footage this family home offered our clients the potential for many enjoyable years. Unfortunately, the interiors had already seen their best days fall behind them. A complete remodel was needed to bring about modern style and comfort for this busy family. Dated “before” photos reveal a vast expanse of chilly white tile, carpet, marble and furniture which did little to present the welcoming feel the clients desired. With so much inspiring nature on view through the huge windows overlooking the lake, the design focus was aimed at warming the home with natural materials in neutral, but never ordinary finishes. The new floors throughout the main level are large format Corten tiles; fire-glazed with a slight metallic sheen. In the Entry, the tile is accented by a large zebra wool rug from Dash and Albert and an artistic exotic wood console from Global Views. Tall, silver lamps with brown silk shades cast a welcoming glow and are reflected in the silver mirror behind them. The Foyer is spacious enough to accommodate dark wood upholstered chairs from Miles Talbott . A pop of citrine green is seen in the tufted chair with silver nail heads by Norwalk. The true focal point of the foyer though is the entry door itself, a massive custom installation with clean lines and full glass.

The staircase just off the Entry has been perfected with a simple, sculptural cable railing system that barely interrupts the view across the entire main level. To the right of the stair, a dining area is lit by an artisan pendant crafted of capiz shell and bronze from Currey. A generously scaled square dining table and leather upholstered chairs by Lexington host family and guests just steps from the huge, granite-topped island. A deep espresso finish on the custom cabinets contrasts with the creamy tile backsplash and simple stainless hardware.

The show-stopping renovation of the existing fireplace encompasses space for a very large TV, hidden storage, open display shelves and a unique, curved wood mantle. Slim, linear format stone in warm tones of gray and copper highlight the fireplace’s façade. Making the most of their position fireside and facing the view, two green upholstered chairs with woven raffia accents from Miles Talbott define the seating area. Round cocktail ottomans by Norwalk in both leather and animal print give guests a place for feet-up lounging. The tile floors are softened by a creamy white shag area rug under the large leather sectional by Norwalk. Accent pillows in citrine, cream, and brown continue the fresh color scheme. With this extensive remodel and thoughtful selection of furnishings and finishes, this home now has a new attitude and future as a timeless Northwest Contemporary showplace and welcoming haven by the lake.
